Baby Safety Project

Purpose: Purchase infant/child car seats, cribs and matresses and prenatal vitamins for clients participating inthe Parenting Program-Baby Safety Project at the Pregnancy Care Center.

Scope: Last year the program had a total of 404 client visits with 321 actively involved in the Parenting Program.

Amount Granted: $1000

Anti-fatigue Floor Mats

Submitted by: Sweet Home Emergency Ministries (S.H.E.M.)

Purpose: THe concrete floor inside the facility produces an unsafe work environment, olacing a high level opf physical stress upon volunteers, who spned hours working on the hard surface. Soluntion, install 448 square feet of anti-fatigue fllor mat.

Scope: SHEM maintains a 30 year history of a strong and important presonal connection with the community of Sweet Home, affecting the daily lives of more than 1000 people each month.

Amount Granted: $500

Volunteer Growth Expansion

Submitted by: Court Appointed Special Assistants (CASA) of Linn County

Purpose: Funds will be used to help recruit, screen and train new CASAs for East Linn County and professionally support them for one year.

Scope: Increase our East Linn volunteers by 10.

Amount Granted: $1000

Camp Foster Cabin Restoration

Submitted by: Linn/Benton Young Marines

Purpose: The project is to restore the cabin at the Foster Scout Camp off of Old Hufford Road.

Scope: To begin with the project will mainly impact the 30-40 youg people and adult volunteers involved in the Linn/Benton Young Marine program.

Amount Granted: $2500

Operation Cold Storage

Submitted by: Fair Share Gleaners

Purpose: Updating the cold storage system to provide safer and fresh foods for our members through the purchase of a commercial, energy efficient glass door unit.

Scope: Fair Share Gleaners (as of the time of thise grant) currently serves 170 households of low-income people.

Amount Granted: $1000

Basic Life Skills Expansion

Submitted by: Sunshime Industries Unlimited, Inc.

Purpose: Sunshine Industries is expanding its basic life skills classes to include cooking classes. Our customers will learn to make economical and nutritious meals for themselves. Sunshiine Industries will also be holding personal growth classes to enhance each individuals social and communicative skills. The expected outcome is to further help our clients meet their goals of becoming more, if not completely independent, productive and integrated into the community.

Scope: The project will directly affect approximately 60 people, with many more being indirectly affected..

Amount Granted: $2000

Senior Companion Program

Submitted by: Samaritan Health and Samaritan Pacific Health Services

Purpose: The SCP engages primarily low-income persons 55 and better in volunteer service to meet critical community needs that also provide high quality experiences found to enrich the lives of the volunteers...keeping both the volunteer and the recipient of their services healthier, happier and engaged in their community.

Scope: The Sweet Home SCP volunteer; clients and families of the clients we serve, local businesses; and the Sweet Home community are positively affected by the services of the Senior COmpanion Program. Our  program is small, yet significant and provides vital assistance to our homebound at a time when the senior population is experiencing drastic cuts in service.

Amount Granted: $2500

Senior Meals/Meals on Wheels

Submitted by: Oregon Cascades West COG Senior Services Foundation

Purpose: Grant funds will be used to purchase meals for Sweet Home Citizens

Scope: Assist in the service of at least 18,321 meals to Sweet Home residents

Amount Granted: $2500

Crib Replacement Project

Submitted by: Little Promises Children's Programs

Purpose: The Consumer Products Safety Commission, for safety reasons has banned all infant and toddler cribs with drop sides or that uses wood screws. Six of seven cribs in our center will need to be replaced.

Scope: The number of people this project will affect is generational. As children out grow the cribs new babies come in and take their places.

Amount granted: $500

Shop With A Cop

Submitted by: Linn County Sheriff's Office on behalf of all Linn County Law Enforcment Agencies

Purpose: The Shop With A Cop program is 16 years old in Linn County and was started in East Linn at Walmart by Reita Wyatt, OSP. The second year the project expanded to Albany and then to Corvallis. Children in foster care are selected to participate by the Department of Human Serivces. These children often have had unpleasant experiences with law enforcement and this gives them an opportunity for a positive experience with law enforcement. Children team up with officers to shop for their families, themselves and have fun.

Scope: 170 children in Linn County foster care are served each year.
